Cold Weather and PPE – How to Stay Protected and Build a Safety Culture

Course Description: This course presents an overview of the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for cold weather and the role of PPE in creating a safety culture. Topics include benefits of flame-resistant (FR) clothing in cold weather; actions team members can take to build a cold-weather safety culture; hazards mitigated by cold-weather FR clothing; error precursors; and best practices for cold-weather PPE.

Learning Objectives: After completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify the two hazards that cold-weather FR clothing addresses
  • Recognize benefits of FR layering in cold weather
  • Describe what team members can do to build a safety culture during cold weather
